The second Fun Quiz proved to be a great success and over £1,200 was raised for the Appeal. Henfield B-P Guildsmen helped by preparing Ploughman Suppers. Thanks to Graham Norris who compiled the questions, Tony Westwood who did a wonderful job as Question Master and all of the Scouts worked who really well as “runners” and waiters, without them we would have been really stretched. A really BIG thanks to everybody who took part in the quiz, we hope that you found the evening enjoyable whilst raising funds for a really great cause.
Henfield Cubs are getting behind the Building Appeal and organising their own events. Young Cub Sam Hartwell began the trend by doing a 1km sponsored swim and raising £120 to raise funds for the proposed Centre, an absolutely marvellous effort… very well done Sam!
Sam’s swim inspired another Cub, Emily Hilton, to propose holding a Cake Sale and Jumble at the Scout Hut during Henfield’s “Great Get Together”. Emily got involved on the day of the sale, along with other Cubs, Scouts and Beavers, and the sale raised £195, which for an impromtu event is a brilliant result! Keep coming up with the ideas Emily:)
Cub Harry Pritchard from Shermanbury then held a small raffle amongst his neighbours which netted £11.10p profit, an excellent outcome for a totally solo effort from a young lad who wants to see this project succeed.
Truly wonderful efforts and ingenuity displayed by all three youngsters… if EVERY member of the Group emulated these three youngsters, just imagine what could be achieved…..

From outside the timber hut looks very usable but inside, beneath the floors and behind the plasterboard stud-work walls, a horror story is being written. The timber framework is rotting at an alarming rate and this adds a new urgency to raising funds for the new Scout Community Centre.
One of the Scout leaders recently removed the kitchen units as the floor felt soft and these pictures show the true extent of the progress of the rot. The floors in other areas of the hut have already collapsed and been temporarily repaired, the stud-work within the external walls is deteriorating rapidly and the day gets ever closer when the hut will become unsafe to use.
Partridge Green Scout Group has had to close for exactly the same reasons, so we know that the future of the oldest existing Scout Troop in the world is in very real danger of closure. Please donate generously NOW and help us to build the proposed new Scout Community Centre in Henfield.
Your help is needed now! Please give generously, you can donate by cutting and pasting this link into your browser.
With the closure of Partridge Green Scout Group, caused by the lack of a meeting place, and the new homes recently built in Henfield, membership has boomed. Many Partridge Green children have opted to join Henfield Scout Group which now has 135 members, this and the introduction of so many new houses in Henfield, has resulted in a second Scout Troop and second Cub Pack being started. This growth was forecast in the Henfield Scout Community Centre Business Plan and is expected to continue for some considerable time.
More leaders are needed to cope with this extra demand, as the present 16 leaders and various parent helpers are struggling with the extra workload; so if anyone fancies helping for a couple of hours a week, please let us know via our contact page and we’ll relay the message to Paula the Group Scout Leader.
The staff at Henfield’s St Peter’s Primary School decided not to give Christmas cards to each other in 2017, instead they donated the £52 saved to the Appeal. We thank them for their kindness and urge other people to follow their example at Easter and Christmas. Visit the school website at http://www.st-peters-henfield.w-sussex.sch.uk/
