SIMON WATTS – Queen’s Scout from 1st Henfield Scout Group is supporting the Building Appeal by performing a Challenging Run every month. Read Simon’s story here and be inspired to sponsor him. Even better still, emulate him and carry out a Sponsored Event for the Appeal yourself.

Hi my name’s Simon.
As a young lad I was fortunate enough to have been brought up in a quaint Sussex village that had a thriving and successful cub\scout group. My early memories are of my parent’s gentle insistence and somewhat dogged determination that I should attend the weekly gathering and participate in some scouting activities.

Needless to say, this naïve young lad soon realised that this scouting malarkey had great potential for adventure. I mean, where else could you sleep under the stars, build massive bonfires and leap into rivers from a pioneering tower that you’d just built.

The years progressed, the naivety waned and the hikes got longer. Looking back, I very much doubt that this wealth of experience and knowledge could have been obtained from anywhere else or in any other way. I’m very much humbled with gratitude towards the leaders and helpers that afforded me this opportunity to become the person I am today.

It is for that reason that I’d like to help support the Henfield Scout Community Centre Building Appeal. I’m no longer living in Henfield, but there will always be a part of me that is forever 1st Henfield Scout Troop.
